'Fire for fire': Politicians, youths cause frenzy, march to DCI with Joho

Hassan Joho arrived at the Mombasa DCI on Monday accompanied by politicians and youths who put their support on large display.
The Governor went to the DCI to record a statement on claims that he forged his KCSE certificate to secure admission to University of Nairobi.
Joho was with leaders including Siaya Senator and lawyer James Orengo, woman representative Mishi Mboko, Kilifi Governor Amason Kingi and ODM secretary general Agnes Zani.
His supporters, mostly university students, defiantly thronged the heavily secured premises.
Dressed in a black shirt and blue jeans, Joho walked in the middle of the crowd that marched to the station waving placards.
Some of the signs read: "Who is fooling who?", "University students recognise comrade #001" and "Drought, unemployment, insecurity in Baringo etc ... Why only Joho?"
The supporters tried to gain access to the station but GSU officers blocked their way. This led to shoving and pushing by both sides, with some youths eventually sneaking into the police station.
Bornvince Akuku, Technical University of Mombasa secretary of social affairs, said they were concerned by what was going on in the county."We are concerned about the timing. Some institutions cleared him in 2013. There is intimidation and use of police force to frustrate residents," he said.
Akuku said there ill motives surrounded attacks on Joho but added "we support Joho all the way".
Nyasimi Derrick, Engineering Student Association deputy chair, said: "How comes the state cleared him in 2013 and is now pulling strings to block him? We will not allow this. Fire for fire," he said
Earlier in the day, heavy security awaited Joho at the Mombasa DCI.
Atop his vehicle, Joho waved at passersby and onlookers as he made his way to the police headquarters.
GSU and regular police mounted roadblocks along the State House road Mombasa, while anti-riot officers cordoned off the police headquarters.
Eight officers armed with G3 rifles, tear gas and battons were seen manning the entrance, while four others were at the adjacent gate.
The last time the Governor was at the police headquarters after claiming he had been arrested, hundreds of supporters thronged the premises demanding his release.
