EACC officers have arrested three Bungoma county officials over the purchase of ten wheelbarrows at Sh109,000 each.
Procurement head Jeremiah Muchembi, Finance head Oscar Ojwang' and suspended Tourism executive Evans Fwamba were arrested in the 3am raids at their houses.
The arrests followed a petition by youths submitted to the commission on Wednesday, said EACC communications officer Pamela Jepkemei.
The youths said they wanted investigations into the embezzlement of funds, financial impropriety, skewed employment and the acquisition of 32-acre pieces of land in Musikoma at Sh6 million each.
They also want the EACC to review county government tenders, including those for the purchase of the wheelbarrows, which they said were inflated.
"The officials will be investigated to clarify how the county government spends funds in various areas," Jepkemei told the Star on phone on Thursday.
This comes after five Bungoma legislators said they would collect signatures to remove Governor Kenneth Lusaka from office over the irregular use of funds.
The leaders said the alleged misuse of funds has robbed residents of money that could have allocated to development projects.
