Alfred Keter now wants URP to quit Jubilee

Kapsabet, Kenya: Nandi Hills MP Alfred Keter says the time has come for the United Republican Party ( URP) to quit the Jubilee alliance if it is to completely solve the problems bedeviling it. The young legislator has accused URP party leader and Deputy President William Ruto of losing grasp on pledges directed to him by Rift Valley residents, where he commands a huge following.

He said the little concern shown to issues raised by URP members by the DP has made leaders from the region to be sidelined on vital issues in Government activities, yet they were key members during formation. “We have been calling on our brother and leader from down the tree. It seems he does not hear us anymore as he has remained silent. Maybe he found the fruits enough for him and our wait may be in vain,” he said. He added that: “He now sounds like his mouth is full of honey and he won’t be climbing down the tree any soon leaving us with no option but to cut down the tree”. Concerning the transfer of former National Youth Service Director Kiplimo Rugut Keter accused Ruto of rejoicing on the pains of the Kalenjin community.

“It is improper for the DP to publicly gloat about being part of the team that oversaw Rugut’s transfer because we sent him there to represent us and not vice versa,” he said. The embittered Nandi-Hills lawmaker accused Ruto of lying to the Kalenjin community with excuses of ‘be patient’ as the TNA faction of the Jubilee government enjoyed all the fruits at the expense of URP. Nandi Governor Cleophas Lagat backed the outspoken MP and encouraged him to speak out on important matters that may demean the region’s high status and presence in Government. Directing his wrath to National Assembly Majority Leader Aden Duale who recently referred to Keter as ‘dumb’ in a recent public event in the area, Lagat said Duale is an outsider and should not be involved in the affairs of the county. “We are telling the leaders who take choppers to our county to tell us how to run our affairs to completely keep off,” said the governor. Keter accused the Jubilee Government for half-heartedly promoting the spirit of devolution by discrediting governors’ relevance and efficiency through lobbying with the senate to facilitate their course.

He compared the Jubilee alliance to the proverbial traditional beer pot where both the TNA and URP had jointly used to brew, saying their community would no longer allow their partners to drink the best and leave them with dregs. “We are going to break the beer pot,” he warned. The leaders were speaking in Kapsabet, Kipchoge Keino Stadium during the Madaraka Day Celebrations where the MP was ushered in with a roar of applause from the Nandi residents.
