With Kenya’s immense media freedom
comes a hefty price to pay . Cases of threats to
journalists in Kenya are not new but this
y ear seems to be different especially for
investigative journalists.
Media Council of Kenya C.E.O, Harun
Mwangi, has revealed that about 35
journalists are on a protection program
following threats from prominent people
in the country . Among them are KTN’s John Allan Namu and Mohammed Ali
who have alway s been men on the ledge.
Speaking about the program, Mwangi had this to say ;
“About 35 journalists in Kenya are on the protection list due to threats from
prominent people. Some have to do with journalists who have been
compromised at one point and failed to deliver,” he said.
Mwangi further urged journalists to maintain their independence and
integrity mainly by being transparent and ethical.
