2 MCAs Charged After Robbing Colleagues While Armed

Offices of the Homa Bay County Assembly.
Two members of the Homa Bay County Assembly were on Tuesday, July 7, charged after allegedly robbing their colleagues while armed with clubs and stones.
A report by Daily Nation indicated that the two, Kendu Bay Township MCA Morris Ogwang’ and his Kibiri counterpart Michael Odira, reportedly robbed property worth Ksh 272,500 from their victims.
The two were said to have been in the company of other people and stole cash as well as other valuables from Homa Bay Town East MCA Juma Awuor and Homa Bay Town Central’s Julius Nyambok.
The incident took place on May 7 at Kendu Bay, Rachuonyo North Sub-county.

Awuor was reportedly robbed of Ksh 75,000 and had his wristwatch worth Ksh 15,000 and open shoes worth Ksh 2,500.
In another count, the two were accused of robbing Nyambok of Ksh 180,000 and later injured him.
The publication further indicated that the lawmakers also damaged a car belonging to Awuor, a Toyota Land Cruiser whose rear left window cost Ksh12,000.
While appearing before Homa Bay Senior Resident Magistrate Joy Wesonga, the two pleaded not guilty to the charges and were released on Ksh150,000 bond each.
Hearing of the matter is scheduled for July 28, 2020.
Lawmakers have increasingly found themselves on the wrong side of the law after a number of Kisii MCAs were nabbed drinking despite a curfew having been instituted by President Uhuru Kenyatta to curb the spread of Covid-19.
They were rounded up by police officers in April while drinking at a bar in the county during the curfew hours.
They were later taken to Kenya Medical Training College in Kisii for a 14 days quarantine.
