Machakos Deputy Governor Bernard Kiala has apologized to his boss Alfred Mutua and pledged to work with him again to build the County.
Kiala, who had fallen out five months ago with Mutua and effectively sidelined by the Governor over a number of issues made the declaration Friday during president Uhuru Kenyatta's visit to Machakos County.
He said that on reflection, he had wronged the people of Machakos and asked for forgiveness from them and the Governor and a return to official working capacity.
" I am today apologizing to my people and the Governor for my actions and ask that we work together again to build the county," he said to rapturous cheers from members of the public.
Kiala had been accused by Mutua of not doing his best for the County and instead channeling his efforts to matters that had no consequence on Machakos.
The two had differed over Kiala's political activities, which included attending the CORD coalition's Saba Saba rally and other events Mutua was against.
He was thus stripped of his official car as well as other privileges, as well as a position on the County cabinet.
Further, he was impeached and taken to the Senate but the committee set up to probe his conduct found him not guilty of any serious offences.
Mutua on his part welcomed the reconciliatory move.
" I thank the deputy governor for deciding to come back and honour the people of Machakos County and welcome back his new found vigour to make up for lost time," he said.
The reconciliation was also welcomed by president Kenyatta, who called it an example to other leaders.
" We must learn from this moment that it is vital we are able to get along for the sake of our country," he said.
